However, the most ambitious and the most terrible was the famine of 1932-1933 - genocide of the Ukrainian people by the totalitarian Communist regime during the adoption of the socialist economy in the Soviet Union, the subordination of society the party-state authorities and of establishing in the country a personal dictatorship of Stalin.

The famine was preceded by forcible collectivization of the farms, dispossession of peasants, grain procurement campaign of mass terror in the countryside. The terror famine, which operated in the USSR for 22 months, is a conscious and deliberate policy of the Stalin government, strategy and tactics which were carried out since 1928. This punitive action was aimed at the suppression of the Ukrainian peasantry, the destruction in Ukraine, independent farms - the socio-economic foundations of the Ukrainian nation. The Ukrainian peasants were the next victims of the Stalinist regime after total repression of the Ukrainian intelligentsia and clergy.

In the peak months of the Holodomor every minute in Ukraine died 24 person, every hour - 1440, every day - 34 560 thousand. In a short period of time Moscow has killed 4.5 million Ukrainians. For decades, the Holodomor in Ukraine was ignored. Research on this tragedy began only in the late 80-ies of the last century.

Every year, the Ukrainian Institute of national remembrance offers a special topic of the Day in order to emphasize a certain aspect of the tragedy of Holodomor of 1932-1933 this year the theme is "People of Truth" are those who publish articles in the Western press, described what he saw and experienced in the diaries or just photographing around the horror of what is happening, risking their careers, freedom or even life. They are journalists, public figures, politicians, teachers, farmers. The slogan of the events of 2015 - "That the world may know".

National celebration for the Day of remembrance of Holodomor victims will be held throughout Ukraine and in 36 countries around the world. In this day there will be ceremonies at the National Museum "the memorial of victims of Holodomor" in Kyiv, and throughout Ukraine, conducting of thematic research, information and cultural and artistic events, exhibitions, presentations, documents, photos and videos. Also on the territory of Ukraine will be flown at half-mast State flag of Ukraine and is limited to events entertainment.

At 16.00 in every home and establishment of Ukrainians will light candles in memory and will join the national moment of silence.
