If the bill is passed, Ukraine will be able to receive anti-tank weapons and ammunition, anti-aircraft weapons, small arms
The Congressman from the Republican party Michael Burgess filed for the consideration of Congress the bill H. R. 5315, aimed at providing direct military aid to Ukraine. It is reported by Voice of America.
Speaking at the congressional hearing, Burgess stated that the parliamentary elections, despite the complexity of the situation in Ukraine, took place and the Ukrainians have demonstrated that their future lies with the West.
The Congressman believes that Ukraine now is a good moment for the consolidation of democratic values and the new government must seize this moment for the welfare of the country. The U.S., according to him, will do everything possible to help Ukraine.
"We, the Congress, as an institution, a position of solidarity with Ukraine. The United States has already provided financial and material assistance to Ukraine, but, given the constant aggression and lack of respect for the peace plan that demonstrates against the Ukrainian people, actually Ukraine needs more than just money. Ukraine needs weapons, ammunition, body armor and communications equipment. I filed a bill HR 5315, which creates a program of lend-lease and allows the U.S. President to convey certain weapons and equipment Ukraine. Undoubtedly, financial aid is important, but also important weapons and ammunition to fight off the Russian troops, who invaded a sovereign country," said Burgess.
If the bill is passed, Ukraine will be able to receive anti-tank weapons and ammunition, anti-aircraft weapons, small arms, including pistols, assault rifles, grenade launchers, machine guns and sniper rifles, multipurpose vehicles, boats, armor, fire control systems, range finders, equipment for the detection and neutralization of improvised explosive devices, chemical, biological and radiation protection.
