President Barack Obama believes that after a quarter-century after the fall of the Berlin wall could not overcome the division of Europe. He said this on Friday, November 7, in Washington on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.

"Russia's actions against Ukraine remind us that we need to work to realize our shared vision of a United, free and living in the world of Europe", - quotes the President of the AFP.

According to the American leader, the main lesson of the events that took place in Berlin on 9 November 1989, is that "walls and dictatorial regimes can last for some time, but, in the end, they are unable to resist the desire of freedom and dignity that burns in every human heart." While Barack Obama remembered all those who died during the decade of the Wall while trying to escape from the GDR.

Today, the United Germany plays a leading role in Europe and the world, said the President of the United States, adding that the U.S. is proud to include our German friends among our most reliable allies."

Earlier, Obama again said that Washington will force Russia to pay dearly for military aggression against Ukraine. The President of the United States noted that the Russian Federation has demonstrated that the boundaries of one state may change to another state, and civilized people are not allowed to see the remains of their loved ones to not have uncovered the truth about the causes of their death.

"America stands for something else. We are convinced that the right provides a force that large States have no right to threaten smaller, and that peoples have the right to choose their future, he said.
