The documentary film "Winter in the fire", dedicated to 93 days of protest on the Maidan in winter 2013-2014, is among five nominees for the "Oscar".
In an interview with Hollywood Director Eugene Afineevsky explained why his picture was a cold shower for American viewers.
For many Americans, a film about the Maidan "the Winter fire", got to number of nominees on "Oscar" as the best documentary film 2015, was a cold shower. About it in interview to the edition "ГОРДОН" told the Director of the film Afineevsky Eugene, 15 years of working in Hollywood. In November 2013, at the beginning of the Euromaidan, Afineevsky arrived in the Ukrainian capital for two weeks and stayed for six months to shoot and put together a huge array of recordings of the Kiev events that led to the fall of the regime of Viktor Yanukovych.
"For many Americans, my film about the Maidan was a cold shower. Viewers, after watching "Winter fire", were amazed that the Maidan is not enough coverage in the US. Said, "why, why mass media didn't devote more time to such important historical events?". Ukraine was in the news CNN, Fox News and other TV channels, but none as detailed and ambitious as we didn't cover the Maidan," said Afineevsky.
The Director emphasized that during the presentation of the film in the West came to him, many young men with one question: "And we can do what he did the Ukrainians?".
"Americans, especially the older generation, in the events in Kiev 2013-2014 saw in his time fought for freedom and democracy the founding fathers of the United States. And the youth, after watching the film, was amazed at the unity of the protest, asked me: "do you think we can do something, what did the Ukrainians on the Maidan?". This question hangs in the air, I have no answer. The revolution of dignity has indeed become an example of unity and courage to many boys and girls in the U.S.," said Afineevsky.

In an interview with Hollywood Director remembered that the scariest thing for both him and his film team was 18-20 February 2014, when on Institutskaya street were shot the largest number of activists of the Maidan.
"But brains still differently worked, the fear receded into the background. "Winter on fire" for me, a kind of monument to the boys who died on the Maidan, the monument to the people who came out to protest, self-organized, rallied and defended their principles. The most striking thing is that on 20 February, when was the mass execution of activists on Instytutska in Kyiv maternity hospital came to light, many more children, than ever. When I found out about it, was absolutely amazed at such a coincidence!" said Afineevsky.
The documentary film "Winter in the fire: the Struggle of Ukraine for freedom" (summer on fire: Ukraine's fight for freedom) co-production USA, UK and Ukraine, dedicated to 93 days of protest on the Maidan, was among the nominees for the prestigious American film award "Oscar".
