Russia has no right to monopolize the victory over Nazism and use it for Imperial assault, said the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
According to Censor.NET with reference to the Ukrainian truth, he said this on 8 may at the ceremonial meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazism in Europe and the Day of remembrance of the victims of the Second world war.
"We are rightly proud of the contribution our grandfathers and great grandfathers in the fight against Nazism. Ukraine, along with Belarus and the European part of Russia, was in the midst of hostilities. Simply put, in the middle of hell!", he said.
"More than half of the total number of Nazi divisions fought on the Eastern front, and defeated them here. On the territory of Ukraine held almost half of the strategic operations of the German-Soviet war", - said the Ukrainian President.
In his words, "no other country in Europe had largely escaped the destruction of cities, industries, agricultural land, loss of as many people as Ukraine.
"According to historians, in the ranks of the red army against the Nazis fought about 6 million inhabitants of Ukraine. Among them - and both my grandfather and my wife's grandfather, who went missing near Odessa, brothers and my mom," said Poroshenko.
He stressed that 2072 Ukrainians deserve the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Among them is the legendary pilot Ivan Kozhedub, who hit 64 Nazi planes, and Alexei Berest, who hoisted the flag of victory over the Reichstag.
"A few years ago shocked the majority of Ukrainians became notorious statement is offensive and derogatory to our veterans and to all Ukrainians, allegedly, Russia has won the war and without Ukraine. These words - it is a desecration of the memory of fallen soldiers, and a mockery of the feelings of the living veterans," - said Poroshenko.
"Wouldn't win this war without Ukraine and Ukrainians! There's even no need to argue!", he is convinced.
According to Poroshenko, "nobody has the right to monopolize the victory over Nazism, and especially to use it to promote its Imperial policy!".
