"In March, 2012, according to the international and multilateral financial sanctions against Iran, the EU adopted the legislation (267/2012). These regulations imposed a ban for financial providers, in particular such as SWIFT, on implementation of financial services for the Iranian banks which got under sanctions of the EU. SWIFT works in system of the Belgian legislation and therefore it has to execute the decision which demands the government of the country of stay. SWIFT implemented certain obligations in regulations and disconnected the banks which got under sanctions of the EU" - explained in SWIFT.
Let's remind, the initiative about an exception of Russia of SWIFT was taken by Great Britain. Such requirement contains also in one of resolutions of European Parliament. In the European political and expert circles adoption of such sanction is considered as one of restrictive measures within possible strengthening of sector and economic sanctions from the EU against Russia .
