The Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said on Thursday, January 8, speaking in the German society for foreign policy in the framework of the official visit to Berlin, Censor.NET with reference to the press service of the Cabinet.
"Our recipe is to be United, to speak with one voice, not to retreat and to hold Russia to Minsk agreement," the Prime Minister said.
He stressed that the sanctions against the Russian Federation "play an extremely important role: "we Have on the agenda there were only two ways. The first military response, but I am not sure that someone would like to have a third world war. We sought to avoid the escalation of this conflict and its military solution. Therefore, another way, which was and is on the agenda to impose financial sanctions".
"The idea of sanctions is to return Russia to negotiate. And Russia should pay the price, because she has committed an international crime", - said the Head of Ukrainian Government.
He noted that he often hears about the need to find a way to "save face" President Putin: "Sounds good, if there is a person. But if the face mask, cynical mask is hard to do".
Yatseniuk said that the joint actions of the EU and the US have already done a lot for Russia to become more "flexible": "I am Convinced that the sanctions also paved the way for the Minsk agreements."
He noted that the Minsk agreement to date, the only agreement with Russia, "and they are the basis for further de-escalate the situation in Ukraine".
The Prime Minister stressed that the government of Ukraine and the President of Ukraine has fulfilled all things written in Minsk agreements."
"What in return, Russia has done? - Nothing, - said Yatsenyuk, Recalling that there are several conditions that the Russian Federation should be carried out in accordance with Minsk agreements.
The first is the restoration of control over the border, because "now the Ukrainian government does not control the Ukrainian-Russian border": "Second, Russia should cease supplying equipment and lethal weapons a Russian-led terrorists. And the third premise is that Russia will take its regular army and their agents. If Russia will fulfill these three prerequisites, if you start to do the Minsk agreement, there will be a significant de-escalation of the situation and will have paved the way for further positive decisions in peace."
Yatseniuk stressed that Ukraine has faced unprecedented challenges: "For the last ten months, we had one war, one of the parliamentary elections, some of the presidential elections, a number of financial challenges. We have survived. And we must survive in 2015. We need to stabilize the situation and do everything possible to achieve further goals and to make Ukraine a positive sample in Europe".
"It's not easy, and we can do it only together with Germany, the EU, our American friends - the entire Western world. This is a fight for freedom and liberty. And we expect that if we work together with the international community, with our Western partners, we will succeed, we will overcome all these problems and will have a European future of Ukraine", - said Yatsenyuk.
