The U.S. state Department confirmed that Barack Obama intends to sign the bill passed last week by Congress, a provision of lethal weapons and other military assistance to Ukraine, as well as additional sanctions against Russia. This was stated by the speaker of the state Department Jen Psaki, reports UKRINFORM.

"The President intends to sign the Act in support of freedom of Ukraine, despite significant doubts," said the speaker of the U.S. foreign service.

Commenting on the issue of additional economic pressure on Russia on the background of the previous statements made by the administration about the need for mandatory approval of these steps with the EU, Psaki stressed that the law only "authorizes the President to impose sanctions as necessary".

She also recalled that the choice of Russia's future remains for her. In this regard, the representative of the state Department recommended that the Russian side "to choose the implementation of the Minsk agreements for the United States to change the current policy of sanctions against Russia.
