May 5, 2014-th year – the anniversary of the first full-scale fighting near Slavyansk. In this day of anti-Terrorist operation has turned into a war with well-armed gangs of Russian mercenaries and saboteurs, reinforced by local traitors. May 5 – first battle of special forces SBU "alpha", the second for "omega", "VEGA", "Jaguar". During this battle two members were awarded the title Hero of Ukraine.

We have restored the chronology of the battle with a number of interlocutors. This is the commander of the National guard in the area, General, Callsign Karpaty, who led the overall progress of the operation and directly gave the orders to the units in combat; head of special forces "alpha", Colonel.. And who participated in the battle; the commander of the sniper of the group "alpha", Lieutenant-Colonel T.; company commander of the 95th airmobile brigade Paul Bear; in the process of preparation was used the testimony of other participants from among the officers of the "omega" and "alpha".

In the first part of the history of the battle of may 5, the General said the national guard with the Callsign "Karpaty":

"Fight on may 5 was not the first fighting in the Donbass. But after that fight I told the interior Minister Arsen Avakov: "we Have not the ATO. And a real war". For the first time the enemy has entered in an organized and open fire battle with our troops.

On April 29 we destroyed the first post of terrorists. In this first attack, I sent my son. He was the commander of the national guard special forces "omega", Callsign Fox. A number of posts we eliminated 2 may. On may 2, we set the posts in place of enemy positions. General Rudnitsky installed 3rd post on "BAS", and I was 2nd at the feed mill, 1st post on the Fish farm. The enemy had poorly organized resistance. Many simply fled. Strongholds in the cities of the enemy held firmly, and started to work on sabotage and intelligence group. We passed the checkpoints volunteers of the 1st battalion of the national guard and has deployed forces in Kramatorsk. May 3-4, we have established a number of new posts.

May 4, on the bridge under the mountain Karachun terrorists carried out a provocation during the negotiation of division of our paratroopers with the locals terrorist threw a grenade from behind civilians in our military. Two soldiers killed, three were injured. Russian terrorists hoped that our soldiers will shoot you all a peaceful crowd in retaliation for the crime, but unarmed people are shot.

Army threw at the beginning under Slavyansk only one unit of the 80th airmobile regiment, and 10 armored personnel carriers. Huge role was played by Colonel-General Gennady Vorobyov, to create the headquarters of the ATO gave a group of experienced officers, also strengthened the headquarters of his officers and the national guard. Was not supply - advanced detachments of Marines and the national guard was surviving only thanks to the help of the local population - two farmers helped us a lot. One of them every day slaughtered a cow and he was preparing food for hundreds of fighters. Strength was a little - I was counting on "omega, "VEGA", Jaguar" - it was only 300 fighters. And "alpha" was composed of more than 100 people. These forces were needed everywhere.

4 may, we started the operation on the regrouping of our forces. On the airfield of Kramatorsk arrived gain. We had to get out of there "alpha", "omega" and "VEGA" at our base in the Raisins to focus the shock to the knuckle in one place for further operations. At this point every road transfer went smoothly. The road from Kramatorsk through Semenovka opponent was not controlled. Our units freely toured Slavyansk on both sides. However, the possibility of an ambush of the enemy I did not exclude. From 1985 to 1992 I served in the Caucasus and there was all the hot spots.

Combined unit "omega", "VEGA" and "alpha" drove from the airfield of Kramatorsk on several APCS and trucks. From the fourth checkpoint they were on the outskirts of Slavyansk - through of the Project, go to the checkpoint 3-A.

Commanded a detachment of Colonel Asavelûk. With him was the commander of the "VEGA" Sailor. (detachment "alpha" commanded another our interlocutor - Colonel A. J. B.), and the commander of the "omega" Colonel Strelchenko.

Realizing the danger of driving on the highway through the village of Semenivka, Asavelûk attempted to drive around the village on country roads. However, when nominating the Northern outskirts of Semenivka Asavelûk noticed the movement of armed people and made the right decision not to go in the area of dense housing. He turned the squad and returned to the main road, and went on a direct route.

At the same time, having received information of a possible ambush, I sent towards the column Asvalue entire cash reserve. These were deployed on the eve of Raisins in units of the same "alpha" and units of "Jaguar". Because "alpha" was not his armor, gave them two Armored personnel carriers 80th airmobile regiment led by a bold guy - commander. (We were unable to determine who took part in the battle on may 5 composition of the 80th airmobile brigade - it was one or two Armored personnel carriers. The total strength of our forces in this battle amounted to 90 people. The group Asvalue was up to 50 fighters, consolidated group, which met them at the crossing, was smaller - about 30, maybe a little more than 30 people.

I can't call air support, because the day before, on may 2, the terrorists shot down over Sloviansk two combat helicopters Mi-24. The helicopter did not take off. And artillery Mat was not deployed and was not able to support us.

At the time of roadblocks the enemy was not satisfied. Information about a possible ambush also not received - literally night our units have passed along this road completely free. But just in case, our combined forces moved towards the squad Asvalue about 11 a.m. at the intersection of the highway and railway tracks in Semenivka.
This intersection is adjacent to the greenery, and the private sector, residential and administrative buildings.

There was concentrated a large detachment of the enemy, who attacked the combined forces, met the column Asvalue. It was about 11 hours.

During the battle our units operated in coordinated fashion. Worked perfectly "alpha", snipers, fire support group. Combined unit turned on and adequately met the enemy's fire. The enemy carried out intensive small arms fire, heavy machine gun or sniper rifle beat from the roof of the factory which was nearby (the building of the plant. - Y. B.). Fighters competently cover the hulls of armored personnel carriers, and most in his first real fight had acted beyond praise. However, the density of enemy fire was high. In battle, killed the bomber "Jaguar", ensign Victor Dolinsky.

He fought a battle ahead. And either grenade RPG or bullet, struck the ammunition, which was Victor. In the explosion he died on the spot. In battle also killed 2 officers of "alpha". There were many wounded, three of them heavy. All the main losses occurred in the consolidated group, which moved to the crossroads to meet Asvalue. Thanks to the sacrifice and professionalism of their comrades, Asavelûk was dangerous "Zelenka" and the intersection without serious loss. He only had those with minor injuries. In turn, the group Asvalue saw enemy emplacements, who beat the unified team. And did it maintain effective fire. This allowed the composite detachment to depart. Losses in the technique was not, we took all the bodies of the dead and wounded.

After the battle, to my emotions jumped the officer "alpha": "General, is on your hands blood!" I said, "Yes, the blood on his hands! Because this is a war!"
In this battle, my son participated along with the whole "omega". Risked everything equally. Emotions were now.

The next day, our agents reported - in the morgue of Slavyansk, over 40 dead militants. Still, our SWAT team and armored vehicles fire support worked correctly, as taught. Eternal memory to the victims - they died like true warriors.

I have during this battle and the entire war there are no rewards - I'm not asking and not looking for them intentionally. I believe that the task of a General in the war - to perform combat missions with minimal losses. To reward the generals after the war.
